Bush Reiterates Support for Gonzales

Bush stated today that Gonzales' testimony last week actually INCREASED his confidence in him.

It seems to me that he is trying to avoid the momentum this would create for Democrats to go after Rove and Myers, but it pretty surprising considering the Republican response.

Do you really care about this issue and how it is being handled? Wouldn't you rather the Democrats focus on constructive legislation that would help the country. By making topics like this priorities we are playing into Bush's hands and making the Dem's look foolish to some independent voters open for change because of the war. Let's focus on getting him out and not being shocked politics was behind the decision to fire a few lawyers.

That is an intersting point. I think you are right that we shouldn't be shocked that politics played a role here. The flip side, however, is that this is a case of politics affecting the judicial branch. The attorney general is not meant to be a political operative.

Follow the logic..Every cabinet position is political which means the branches of government represented by the cabinet are political.
If we step outside of the Attorney General and talk about the Osprey ( a link to a photo is at the bottom), which is the plane that no branch wants and yet continues to recieve funding and is just being deployed in Iraq after decades of failures in non-combat situations. Politics is not stopping a piece of equipment being deployed and putting soldiers at risk from being shot down in it. To me that is a much more serious issue and the kind of issue we should focus. Again, focusing on Gonzalez and what they did, which I do disgree with, is not the type of action that will put a dem back in the white house. At the end of the day the only sure fire method to stop events like this is put someone else in the white house. We need to attract independent and middle of the road voters.

On the other side Pete Domenci is well respected member of the Senate. He seemed to be genuinely upset by the lack of actions and I think he has a right to complain to the Attorney General.
