Can someone say terrific VP?
You think Clinton and Barak could get elected as a ticket? I am not convinved the country would elect a woman AND a black man at the same time. Wish they would, but I don't know if Red America would so that.
Did you guys see the Washington Post article on Sunday? Nothing groundbreaking, but worth a read.
One part really stuck with me:
"Suarez, who also identifies himself as a white Latino, says he suspects that some whites are projecting onto Obama their perception of what a black man should be -- less black.
'They want to take race out of it,' says Suarez. 'Because they like him so much, they want him not to be black.'"
Thoughts?
Identifying yourself as a "white Latino" speaks volumes about one's racial feelings. It's tantamount to saying "I'm not even a little bit Indian" and if you want to see what full on unabashed racism looks like, stuff that blows shitty mortgage applications and preferential hiring out of the water, spend some time in Latin America, where politicians openly make derogatory remarks about Indians in public and are lauded for it and where job listings openly dissuade indians from applying.
Exactly! The irony of this statement is unbelievable. I could be completely wrong with this analysis, but he seems to imply that whites support Obama because he strikes a balance between elitist, white middle class sensibilities and modern concepts of an inclusive, integrated society, yet he makes certain to identify himself as a “white Latino.” Could it be that by making this distinction, particularly in an age of rampant anti-[Latino]immigration in this country, he is driven by the very same social climate that he indicts?
